[...] Holy Spirits- one of my favorite bands out of Brooklyn (and wonderful new friends) just released a gorgeous new song called Handmade Sun off their split 10″ with Mutual Benefit via Father/Daughter Records. Something tells me this album artwork was designed by Nathaniel Whitcomb of Think or Smile. Um yes, yes it is. This is a total culmination of all things beautiful with some of the sweetest folks I know, so I always get excited to hear something new. Holy Spirits in particular sounds like just that, something ghostly and lingering- a quietly preserved habitat, untouched- like what I would imagine relaxation tapes to sound like without the hum. It’s music to put you at ease, and to make you marvel at the simplicity of sound. You can grab the release right over here. [...]

[...] You’re in for a total treat with this track from Holy Spirits, off a new split with Boston-via-Columbus’ Mutual Benefit – accurately titled Mutual Spirits 12″. “Handmade Sun” starts off with the type of intricate, ornate, polyphonic, altered state found folk that sounds like what Grizzly Bear dreams about. However, at the 4:20 mark (appropriately) “Handmade Sun” puts all the chips in, sending up a glorious, exalting wall of sound appropriate for A Storm in Heaven. A beautiful juxtaposition all around – go grip this limited edition beast from the good folks at Father/Daughter Records. [...]

[...] We got a package in the mail with all three releases from a new label, Father / Daughter Records. Right up front, all of them are great. The “Skin” 7″ from tooth ache. is a slab of beautiful, brooding, sometimes dark goth-pop (especially the second song), Family Trees’ “Dream Talkin” is a breezy bit of summer psychedelia, and the untitled Levek 7″ is a totally unclassifiable, genius piece of pop. Check out songs from all of them below. They’re all limited, come on colored vinyl, and are beautifully designed. It’s inspiring to see such a young label focusing on exciting music from bands we’ve never heard of, our compliments to them. Visit FatherDaughterRecords.com.
